Miz Mozelle dress (puke free!)

Imagine this scenario: you're excited to wear your new dress to Santa Barbara because it's super comfy and it will be fun to have a new place to take photos. Unfortunately, on the drive there Grandma is chillin in the passenger seat wearing sweatpants, a sweatshirt, and has a quilt on her lap while blasting the heater. Mom is driving like a psycho on the 154. I'm doing some yoga breathing exercises and praying my ass off that I don't puke all over my new dress. Luke is staring at me and praying his ass off that I don't throw up on him. True story. I made it to Santa Barbara without puking on myself, but unfortunately I managed to get some dirt smudged on my dress and I didn't notice it until after the photos. Dirt is better than vomit, though.

Let's talk about the pattern, it's way more interesting than talking about me getting carsick. The dress is the Miz Mozelle pattern by Jamie Christina and it was my first time using one of her patterns. Sometimes, I get kind of hesitant about using patterns from a company/someone that I have never sewn with before because I get worried that I won't be able to follow the instructions. Luckily, Jamie's instructions are super clear and straightforward. The illustrations were helpful and I didn't find myself getting lost or confused at all. Success!

The fabric is a jersey from Mood that I purchased almost a year ago. I am not ashamed to say that I am 100% ripping off one of Jamie Christina's samples from her pattern. Her model is wearing a white dress with black bias tape. The only difference is that my fabric has polka dots. I'm being a copycat!

I felt like living on the edge, so I didn't make a muslin. Luckily, I'm pretty happy with the fit and how everything turned out. The only thing I would do differently would be to use a bias tape around the inside neckline that actual matched the fabric. Sometimes it shows and I would prefer to have used a lighter color, not black. But that's such a minor thing to gripe about.

Here is an Instagram photo of me and B$ aka my mom.

Have any of you sewn with Jamie's patterns? I am now officially a fan, so I bought myself the Sol Hoodie pattern and I can't wait to start working on it!

The Happy News
Christine Haynes just released a new pattern, the Emery dress, and it is available for pre-order. I saw the dress earlier in the year when I was at Sew LA for a little party, so it's safe to say that I have been in love with this pattern since January! The bow detail is adorable and the second version features long sleeves and a cute collar. When I make it it is going to be my favorite winter dress. Fact.

The Not So Happy News
I know that many of you love the patterns from Colette Patterns. Sarai, Kenn, Rachel, and the rest of the staff are such hard workers and give so much back to the sewing community. Let's help them out and vote for them in the Martha Stewart American Made contest! If they win first place Sarai and Kenn are giving the prize money to their employees as a bonus. Why is this not so happy news? They are currently in second place and need your help! Please vote!!!

P.S. Don't forget to enter the giveaway on my blog!
