Meet up!

Christine in her Hazel and me in my Renfrew

A couple of months ago Christine let me know that she was going to be heading through town and wanted to know if I wanted to meet up. Would I??! I was so excited to meet another sewing blogger, especially one as cool and talented as her, so of course I said yes.

We met yesterday at Doc Burnstein's for some amazing salted caramel ice cream and had a blast! It's funny to think that before yesterday I had only talked to Christine briefly through e-mail and comments, but now it feels like I have known her for a long time. We talked about sewing and work and of course we talked about fellow sewing bloggers! It's so awesome chatting to someone about how my last invisible zipper sucked, how much I wish we could hang out with Oona, how rad Christine Hayne's patterns are, and how cute Madalynne is and have them "get" what I am saying!

Thanks for hanging out with me, Christine! Next time I will come to San Jose and we can go fabric shopping together! :)

Hazel Parade and a giveaway!

Hello and happy Monday! If you haven't been over to the Sew Colette Flickr group then I suggest you check it out now and look at all of the beautiful Hazel dresses. I've posted some (not all) of my favorites below:

Hazel
Marrie B is one of those people that makes the cutest things and each and every time the fit is perfect! I have featured her in past sew-along projects and every time I marvel at how perfect her outfits look. Go Marrie! :)

Peek-a-boo back on hazel dress
Let's talk about Qui's dress. How amazing is the back of the dress? I love the cut out and the buttons. Qui, are you planning a tutorial for this in the future? Hint hint :)

Yesterday Rochelle and I were literally "fighting" via email and text over who got to post Qui's dress, we both just love it so much!

Colette Hazel Dress
Speaking of Rochelle, Queen of Alterations, she made some changes to the dress that I never would have thought of. She used three different color fabrics for an ombre effect, pleats instead of gathers for the skirt, and top stitching on the seams. The end product is beautiful and perfect for summer.

Hazel Front
Katiesews2much has made a couple of Hazels (love them both), but I decided to post this one because I love her fabric choice and her styling. Those shoes are adorable! In her blog post she mentioned that she has worn the dress three times. I'm in the same boat, I've worn my Hazels at least once a week!

More dresses are featured on Rochelle and Sarah's blogs!

GIVEAWAY
Alright, let's talk business: are you going to be sewing the Macaron dress with us in August? Did you sew Hazel with us or any of the other patterns in the Sew Colette sew-along (Meringue, Pastille, Truffle, Taffy, Licorice)? If you said "yes" to either question then you are eligible for this world wide giveaway!

There were a couple of ladies that liked the flamingo fabric I used for my muslin, so I stopped by Quiltin Cousins and picked up a yard to give to one of you! If you would like to enter to win, please leave me a comment and tell me if you have any exciting summer plans coming up. The winner will be announced on Monday, July 30th.

My Hazel dress

Have you guys forgotten about me? I feel like I haven't updated in a long time! As I mentioned in my last post, things have been pretty rough in my personal life, but on the bright side I think things are starting to look up. THANK YOU so much for all the sweet comments, text messages, and e-mails. It really warmed my heart to hear from you. xo.

I finished my Hazel dress a little over a week ago and took photos this weekend. Tomorrow I plan on wearing the dress out and about, I'm excited!

I LOVE the pockets!!

Just holding up the fence in my yard. Sorry for the terrible scenery, it was hard to find a place with decent light. Should have planned better!

 Back.

 Close up of the front.

This is the first zipper I have done that I am really happy with. I always have trouble with the bottom piece sticking out and being really obvious, but on this one it's not noticeable at all. Yes!

Is anyone else still working on their dress? We pushed back the date for the Hazel Parade a bit, so hopefully that will give some of you time to finish up. I needed the extra time, so I can't complain :) Now, I'm off to the Flickr group to post photos and check out the other Hazels. Happy Monday!

Sorry

Hey everyone,

I apologize for my lack of posting and commenting. There have been some stressful things going on in my personal life and I haven't had time to dedicate to blogging. My Hazel dress is finished (some of you saw a sneak peak of it on Instagram this weekend), but I have not had time to take photos with an actual camera. I'm sorry to be a slacker!

xo Erin
