Vintage Photo Friday - Cary Grant part 2 or 3
I have been on a Cary Grant kick/obsession these last few weeks. I never knew too much about him until recently. I liked what I knew about him before I read Good Stuff, but now I LOVE him. He was such a gentleman, so classy, intelligent, and an all around amazing person. The way his daughter writes about their life together makes you wish you had the opportunity to meet him. I hope that someday I can be half as good of a parent as Cary Grant.
Gift giving
I love it when I get to see pictures of people enjoying/appreciating the gifts I have given them. This is Krista when she opened the blanket I made her at her baby shower. I love her expression!
I made Brittany and Sammy the quilt and blue bear in the crib pictured above. Their baby will be here soon to enjoy them :)
Goodreads.com
My cousin Stacy turned me on to this website and I am obsessed. It's heaven for book lovers.
Earlier this year I decided to make a goal to read 24 books before December 31st. I love how the website keeps track of the books you have read and how close you are to your goal. I'm a little behind, but wouldn't you know that I have some books coming in from Amazon tomorrow ;)
Does anyone else have any reading goals?
Colette Patterns- Sewalong
I've never done a sewalong before, but I signed up for my first one. I will buy the pattern for the sewalong to start off. Colette Patterns then posts blog entries on how to do the steps in the pattern. I am still fairly new to sewing and need all the help I can get! This is what the finished dress looks like:
Cute, right? I have a fabric in mind for this one and it is kind of wild. I can't wait to start.
Weekend
On Saturday Luke had some work to do in Solvang (a cute Danish village an hour away from our house), so we went early and had some breakfast at a restaurant that my family used to frequent when I was a child.
I ordered aebelskivers, which are a cross between a pancake and a popover and are topped with jelly. They were as delicious as I remembered!
Today has been a mellow day, as Luke has been out of town with his friends at Sound and Fury Fest in Santa Barbara. I have been very productive though! I ran errands, cleaned, did laundry, and spent hours sewing for my quilting class! I made a ton of the rectangles pictured above and I don't even know if I did them right :(
Vintage Photo Friday - Grace Kelly
I loved her acting in these movies:
Cutting squares and making a mess
At Monday nights quilting class I cut a ton of squares and rectangles. Between kayaking on Sunday and using the rotary cutter on Monday, my arms were killing me!Next step: sewing it all together. I like the color combo of the teal and baby blue.
It's official: I buy too many books from Amazon
Today my credit card company's fraud department called me regarding a charge on my account. I told them that I did make the purchase (motorcycle helmet for my sisters boyfriend) and asked them why it was red flagged. The gentleman said, "you seem to only use your credit card for Amazon and this charge was from a different company." Hahaha! It's my burstday!
Happy birthday to me! I celebrated a little early and had dinner and cake with my family last night at my grandmas house. I am officially now in my late twenties. Next thing you know I'll have gray hair! Wait....Fabric
Today I bought the fabric pictured above from Quiltin Cousins in Pismo Beach. This quilt is a gift for a very special person in my life, but I will post more about that later ;)
You might be wondering why I never posted a picture of my finished quilt from last quarter. Well, I'm not done with it! I still need to do the binding, which is the holdup. The instructor asked me a couple months ago if I could hold off on doing the binding until the next session started, so she could show me properly. I can't wait to give it to my Grandma.
Vintage Photo Friday - Cary Grant
Cary Grant is on my mind today. My Grandma Linda sent me his daughter's book, Good Stuff, yesterday in the mail as part of my birthday gift. I have been dying to read the book because I don't know anything about Cary Grant and because I judge books by their covers and I like the cover. I have my bachelors in Graphic Communication, so I judge everything in print!
I'm going gray
I forgot to post about my hair! Well, at the bank I couldn't dye my hair any wild colors, so after my last day Curtis dyed my hair gray. I'm not completely gray, but there is a lot going through my bangs and some random streaks throughout. I really like the gray, I wish I could dye my whole head!
Coconut
If you didn't know, I have an obsession with coconut. I'm not sure if it is because I miss Hawaii or if I am going through some sort of phase. I drink coconut water. I love Trader Joe's new coconut milk. I use a coconut body wash. If Bath and Body Works didn't test on animals I would buy the Coconut Lime Verbena perfume. Coconut ice cream, cakes, and pies, yum. OBSESSED!
Last night I made coconut rice topped with toasted coconut to fuel my obsession. It was amazing! And I have leftovers for lunch today.
Krista's baby shower
Today I went to Krista's baby shower. I had planned on making a teddy bear like I did for Brittany and Sammy, but it didn't work out. For one, I wasn't in love with the fabric I picked out for Krista, and for two, the teddy bear looked like a mutant when I finished its head. I rushed to Beverly's Friday night and found the most perfect fabric for Krista. She loves owls and hearts, this fabric has both!I decided to make a baby blanket with satin trim. Sounds easy, right? Not for me, I always manage to make things harder than they need to be! I couldn't get the trim to line up on both sides, so the craftsmanship is far from perfect :(
The little owls are so cute!
The back is a pink and white polka dot flannel.
She opened the gift today and liked it!
AddictedToVeggies.com
I have been a fan of the cooking blog/website Addicted to Veggies for some time now. I love the unique combinations of ingredients, the writing style and personality of Sarahfae, and of course eating the food when it is done :)Less than a week ago I asked Sarahfae if she could make a recipe involving coconut because I am obsessed with it. She came up with this recipe (see photo above). How amazing does that look???? And how amazing is it that Sarahfae made up that recipe in less than a week? I am in awe of her and all her cooking! Thank you Sarahfae for making my coconut dreams come true!
Please check out her website, you will fall in love!
Sometimes I stick my foot in my mouth.
A month or so ago I was with my friend Kim at the fabric store. She showed me some fabric and my immediate reaction was to say, "that's disgusting." Well, she was showing me the fabric because she actually liked it! Awkward.... We both laughed about it, but I just couldn't get that fabric out of my head.Kim and her family moved to Colorado on Saturday. I knew what had to happen: she needed that fabric made into pillowcases as a going away present.
Old family photo
My dad, aunt Connie, and Grandma Juanita. My dad looks the same now as he did then.
Vintage Photo Friday - Summer edition
The weather here at the beach hasn't seemed like summer, at least until yesterday. It is HOT and I am ready for a beach day. I want to lay out, read, and go swimming. Maybe I can make this happen on Sunday...
