Tomorrow is a big day
In 45 minutes Luke and I will officially be small business owners! Wish us luck because we are going to need it :)Dita is stylin
It's no secret that I admire Dita's style. After seeing this photo I am dying for those sunglasses! I have been searching for a similar pair for the last six months with no luck. Well, that's not entirely true. I just haven't been able to find a pair I love for under $300 that I can put prescription lenses in :( Does anyone know where I can find an affordable pair?
Freddy Moran
Last night I went to the Arroyo Grande quilt guild meeting. The guest speaker was Freddy Moran, a quilter well known for her bold color choices. I was so inspired after looking at her quilts!!! She literally follows no rules, she buys whatever fabric she wants, and has no design/size in mind when starting her projects. It was refreshing to be reminded that there are no boundaries, just make what YOU like and don't worry about everyone else!
Green building design
My friend and coworker, Kevin, went to a green building meeting in Santa Barbara and some posters I updated were on display. He took a picture and sent it to me. Thanks, Kevin!
Gift for Sammy and Brittany
I made this today for my friends Brittany and Sammy. Their baby is due on August 10th and his room is sailor themed!I couldn't have done it without my assistant, Lebron.
I got to give it to them today and they liked it!
For a friend
Thanks to Sew Stitchin in Grover Breach for carrying such cute fabric. I am making a gift for a baby. All my friends are having babies which means more sewing for me :)

Big change
Today a customer came into the bank and said she needed to talk to me. She said that she woke up this morning with a feeling that something life changing was going on in my life. I told her that she was right and that I am leaving my current job in a month to work with Luke. It's so funny that she had that feeling and that it ended up being true. I have very mixed feelings about leaving my current job as I like what I do, but in the end it will be for the best. I am just VERY sad about my coworkers. I will miss them so much, they are truly like family to me. Luckily, most of them wish the best for me and understand my decision.
Luke is buying a business, which has been his dream. Financially it makes more sense for me to be in the shop because it would cost more to hire someone to be in the shop. I am excited to work with Luke and to be a business owner. Cross your fingers for us because life is about to get crazy!
Quilting class #7
I am so lucky to encounter such sweet people in my life! Last night when I went to my quilt class a fellow classmate gave me a disc for beginners quilting. How sweet!!! She told me that I could sit with her and her friends next week and that the women at my table are "not young enough" for me to sit with (they are in their fifties/sixties)! Hahha!
Last week in class I was speaking to a lady named Kris who is a nurse. I talked a little bit about my mom who is a nurse too. Yesterday she brought me a pattern for scrubs so I can make my mom some stylish work gear! So sweet!!!
I have been working on my quilt like crazy and am officially addicted! I love making gifts for friends and I see many presents in their future :)
Bad hair day
Today I tried to do a hairstyle from my new book and was very unsuccessful :( oh well, practice makes perfect, right? The extra time in the bathroom made me aware of a village of gray hair growing on my head!!!
I would like to dye my hair a red color. That's all.
Oh, and don't you hate keeping secrets from someone when you are making them a present? I am dying to show my friend a gift I am working on, but I need to try and keep my mouth shut for another month. I will just have to show all of you when it's done :)
I love lazy Saturdays
I have spent the majority of my day cuddling this cute little face! In the morning I was very productive; I spent time with my mom and grandma, went to Lukes work to learn some bookwork, went on a call with Luke, and went to Sew Stitchin for some fabric. Since mid afternoon we have done NOTHING and it feels amazing. We watched movies and ordered pizza. Sometimes lazy days are the best!
Vintage Photo Friday - Dick Van Dyke
I need some style!
I got this book for some new hair styling tips... Now I just need some help doing the styles! I am so lost :)Quilt top
A quilt is made up of three layers: the quilt top, batting, and quilt backing. Well, this is my quilt top! Sorry for posting such low quality photos, my only camera is on my iPhone with the exception of my 35mm that my mom bought in Japan in the seventies.I added the blue border this weekend and I am in love with that fabric. I bought it at Quiltin Cousins in Pismo Beach. I decided to get crazy and have a fabric day, so I went to Sew Stitchin in Grover and loved it! They selection is not huge, but what is in stock is super cute. I didn't buy anything, but I am going there when I start my next project. Yes, my life is very wild if you couldn't tell.
Happy Mothers Day
Happy Mothers Day to all the moms out there. The photo above is of me and my mom. This is my husband Luke with my other mom. I am so lucky to have two amazing moms in my life!
I love lavender!
I mentioned a while back that I did some graphic design for Finney and his wife Stacy. I got to see everything first hand at their booth at Farmers Market in San Luis Obispo on Thursday night. They are the nicest people ever and their products are amazing! They grow their own lavender and make many different things with it: lavender oil, rice bags with lavender (good for sore necks when heated in the microwave!), and a lavender room spray, just to name a few. Oh, I designed the sign in the background :)Here are the two labels I designed. The circle one is a sticker and the square one is a tag.
I HAD to get the lavender room spray. Now my house smells amazing!
Go check out their booth! They go to the farmers in SLO on Thursday night and the farmers in Avila on Friday night.
Dinner
Last night I was in the mood to make something new for dinner.A cold noodle dish on a HOT day, yum!
Tonight I am going to Farmers Market with my friend Devon. Sephora, Beverlys, and avocados. Sounds like a good night!
Basketball family
Lebron is ready for the playoffs, as you can see. It's all we watch nowadays! I'm rooting for the Celtics, but they aren't doing too well :(
The beginning of an obsession... I think.
Yesterday I attended the Seven Sisters Quilt Show in San Luis Obispo. I dont even know what to say... I'm speechless! The quilts were so amazing and inspiring, truly works of art. The photo above is of one of my favorite quilts from the day. Unfortunately, I didn't get to stay too long :(Before I left I HAD to buy this pincushion. It reminds me of my mom because she has one just like it :)
I bought this pattern for these bears. Aren't they cute? I think they will make good presents for all the people I know that are having babies!
Yesterday wasn't the best day ever, so I had to wait until today to work on my quilt. Stella helped me out, as usual.
I sewed everything together and made the quilt top. Hurray! Next I am adding borders to the edges.
Ok, I rarely get this crazy with shopping because I am broke, but this week I went crazy for sewing/quilt supplies! My instructor said that I needed these three feet for my machine, so I ordered them off the Internet. I wanted to buy local, buy the closest Brother dealer is in Santa Barbara. With gas prices that is an expensive drive!
